What do you think of when you hear the word “Jesus”? What do I think of when I hear the word”Jesus”? Well, since you asked…
“I See Grace” by Micah Tyler
I’ve seen shame
The kind that comes from mistakes
The kind that won’t go away
When I turned around
They were right there to remind me
I’ve seen regret
The kind that messes with your head
The failures and the can’t forgets
But standing here now
I’m thanking God it’s behind me
Cause I’ve seen nail scarred hands
Reach out and wipe it all away
Now I see grace
Hallelujah I stand amazed
I’m staring at an empty grave
And the stone that You rolled away
When I was a prodigal
You saw a son
When I left the 99
You saw the one
And just like that
All my past has been erased
When I look back
I see grace
I still hurt
Fall short of what You say I’m worth
And that devil says I don’t deserve
What You did on the cross
And he’s right cause I don’t
But You did it anyway
I see grace
Hallelujah I stand amazed
I’m staring at an empty grave
And the stone that You rolled away
When I was a prodigal
You saw a son
When I left the 99
You saw the one
And just like that all my past has been erased
When I look back
I see grace, grace
God’s grace
Grace that is greater than all my sin
Thank God almighty
Gonna sing it again
Oh grace, grace
God’s grace
Grace that is greater than all my sin
I see grace
Hallelujah I stand amazed
I’m staring at an empty grave
And the stone that You rolled away
I was a prodigal
You saw a son
When I left the 99
You saw the one
And just like that all my past has been erased
When I look back
I see grace, grace
God’s grace (I see grace)
Grace that is greater than all my sin
Thank God almighty
Gonna sing it again
Grace oh grace
God’s grace
Grace that is greater than all my sin
Yup – When I think of Jesus. I See Grace.
What He’s given me versus what I deserved. Big. Little. We all have a list of mistakes we’ve made. All through life. I’m sure you’ve got a couple that would shock me. And…don’t worry – I can probably out-shock. We. All. Do.
But Jesus has enough. Grace. Actually – more than enough. For me. For you. For everyone. And even bigger – He wants. Yes, wants to give it to us.
The knowledge and power of Grace sustains. Cleanses. For me it’s big. Really big. This evil I have inside – Cancer – may someday take my life. Grace gives me life. Eternal life.
A short phrase in the song says “When I saw the prodigal, you saw a son. When I left the 99, you saw the one”. He cares. Jesus really really cares. He knows the most intimate details of our life. And He cares. Yes, He still cares. He knows our good. He knows our bad. He even knows the number of hairs on our head. (That’d be zero for me!! 😂😂).
That Grace allows me not to be consumed by my cancer. Not to be distraught. Not to worry. Not to fear. I’ve been given a gift that is so amazing. So undeserved. And it can never be taken away. Ever.
My wife tells of many people, after talking to she and I – once I slip away – they ask “Is that really the way Jim is? Is he really that calm? Or is it an act? Debbie always says: “Yes. That’s real. That’s Jim”. I think I’ll ask her to add one more little thing. To that answer. “Jim sees Grace”.
